Ive been working hard at getting the main level of the cabin ready for winter. I think it is now at a point where there is nothing else I need to do on this level. The stove is in, shelves are in, a counter top and sink has been installed. We are spending more and more time and now are able to enjoy just being in the cabin.

There is still lots to do in the upstairs, the lofts and around the cabin.

Winter is on its way here in Eastern Canada, and with that comes snow, ice and cold weather. I will soon be able to travel to the cabin by either snowshoe or snowmobile, so I am trying to get as much completed before then.

My goal was to complete the sill logs and floor joists before winter arrived, but it was a task much easier said than done. Meanwhile, we also needed to get the sawmill set up and a tool shed built before the snow came. It seemed we had too many irons in the fire.

With winter continuing to get closer, it has been a focus to get the stove installed. This past week we were able to accomplish this. I decided to position the stove in the corner of the cabin to maximize my floor space. However, I wanted the stove pipe to come out of the roof near the peak. This should help with draft as well as lower the chance of a snow-load pulling the stovepipe off of the roof.

Lighting the first fire in the cabin felt wonderful! We spent a night in the cabin over the past weekend and the fire felt great. We were able to keep the cabin warm, despite it not being fully sealed yet.

We also built a heat-shield out of leftover roofing. This will be modified some more in the future, but it should help for the time being.

Наконец-то удалось выбраться в лес с батей. На этот раз мы идём в охотничий домик в лесу. Идём с ночёвкой, взяли с собой спальники и немного еды. Этот лесной домик сделан из досок, поэтому спать в нём без спальников холодно, можно конечно каждые 2-3 часа вставать и подкидывать дрова в печь, но в таком случае не выспишься. Вечером на костре мы пожарили мясо и устроили очень вкусный ужин. И как всегда послушали интересные истории из жизни моего отца. Всем приятного просмотра.
